I have loved fashion since I was a little girl. There was nothing I loved more than when my mum would say it’s time to get some new clothes. Let’s be honest, as a kid growing up in the 80’s and 90’s, the fashion style could have used some work…but hey, it’s all making a comeback!
As I get older, my style and influences have developed and changed. As someone who has taken the leap from working in the corporate world to working for myself, the needs of my clothes have changed too. Throughout this transition however, one thing remains steadfast - I gravitate towards quality and I am obsessed with comfort.
While sitting at home this year in the Melbourne pandemic, home-schooling my kids, I wanted to create something I was passionate about... something that lit a fire inside of me. It was then that I created Uniek - A luxe loungewear fashion brand for you.
The notion of slow fashion and protecting our planet has been something that has garnered my interest for quite some time. - As has the idea of investing in a piece that you can pull out of your wardrobe, time after time. I love the idea of producing limited runs to ensure we don’t have an overstock issue, as well as sourcing sustainable materials and ensuring their development processes to the planet in a considered and conscious way/manner.
For some time I have been frustrated with the way that women are spoken to on platforms such as social media. I recently turned 42. I am an avid user of social media and I can be highly influenced – Instagram is where I shop first, BUT - and a big but - it can get me down. I don’t need to be told “I can do it all” - cos guess what, I can’t. I don’t need to be reminded about anti-ageing – I see the wrinkles. I want to feel supported by a brand and be included for being me…just the way I am.
